About
The Popakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg – in Germany, this name stands for quality and competence within the academic education of young musicians and aspiring managers. After more than 50 years of pop culture, we were the first in Germany to offer academic degree programs focusing on popular music and music business. Since its foundation in 2003, the Popakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg has quickly become one of the most renowned names in the German music and media landscape. We have also successfully established ourselves in the higher education sector, as can be seen from our cooperation with German and international educational institutes, as well as the accreditation of our degree programs in 2010.

The Popakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg sees itself not just as an institution of higher education but also as a competence centre for all aspects of the music industry, underpinning this with numerous projects in the areas of European cooperation, regional development and business development. As Germany's unofficial capital of music, Mannheim offers the ideal environment, with its lively cultural scene, active promotion of popular music and institutions such as the Musikpark, a start-up centre for companies, ventures and projects within the music and creative industries.

Welcome

Location / Housing

Mannheim, Germany is located at the confluence of the river Rhine and river Neckar.  The town is surrounded by the beautiful regions of Odenwald and Palatinate, both of which are very popular for walking and cycling.  Mannheim's surrounding area is known nationwide for its asparagus cultivation, and the Palatinate region is well known for its vineyards and traditional wine festivals, most of which take place across the region in autumn.  Thanks to Mannheim's central location and extensive transport connections, a variety of charming towns are within easy reach and even France and Switzerland are only a relatively short journey away.  Residence Hall "Wohnheime:" The Studentenwerk runs several residence halls, one of those is located right beside the Popakademie institution.  Depending on the residence hall, you will live with 2 to 15 people in a shared apartment (Wohngemeinschaft = WG).  In a WG everyone has his or her own room but the kitchen, bathroom, and bathrooms are communal. There are single rooms and cheaper double rooms with two beds in one room.
