"STEPS" is a program for exchange students from MTSU to study at Saitama University (SU) for one or two semesters. This program offers semi-intensive Japanese language courses and other courses in a variety of academic fields in English. Through this specially designed program, students are provided with opportunities to study Japanese arts and sciences, to improve Japanese proficiency, and to immerse themselves in intercultural experiences.

Saitama is the capital and the most populous city of Saitama Prefecture, situated in the southeast of the prefecture. It is approximately 15-30 kilometers north of central Tokyo, and considered part of the Greater Tokyo Area.
The total enrollment of SU is more than 8,500 with more than 500 international students pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies.

STEPS students are accommodated at the International House of Saitama University adjacent to campus.

1st Semester: April 1st to September 30th
2nd Semester: October 1st to March 31st

The academic calendar precludes MTSU students from studying at Saitama University for Fall only, because the Fall semester does not conclude in time for students to resume studies at MTSU in January for the Spring semester.

In addition to intensive Japanese language study, available courses include:
Management Systems of Japan
Modern Japanese Society
Science in Japan
Japanese History

Intercultural Communication
Globalization and Japan
Introduction to Information and Computer Sciences
History of Modern Economic Thought

Students will pay MTSU fees for tuition.  Room and board are paid to Saitama.
